The Culture of The American West
MEET “THE TUCKERS”
Since 1981, Richard and Carrie Tucker have vacationed in China and done business with numerous Chinese manufacturers. They have shared fascinating experiences with their Chinese friends and colleagues. The Tuckers have embraced many of the Chinese traditions and passed them on to their friends back in the United States.
During the past four years, the Tuckers have been working with the Asian Studies Department at Furman University. The Furman Chinese Programs are affiliated with Soochow University. The Tuckers had the opportunity to travel with Furman students to the city of Suzhou and participate in the classroom with Chinese professors at the university. Their group has also traveled to many historic cities and enjoyed the immersion into the 5,000-year-old history and culture of China.
During the past three years, the Tuckers have funded a program for pre-freshmen students to go to China with a Furman professor to provide them with a classroom experience and travel to historic cities in order to ignite their passion to learn more about China.
For the past ten years, the Tuckers’ company, Promotional Fashions Corporation, has been the primary sponsor for the Cowboy’s Professional Rodeo Association of Texas (CPRA). They have provided scholarships to the young man and woman who scored highest in the competition.
The Tuckers’ involvement in rodeo always reminds them of the rich heritage it has afforded our nation and families. This combination of experiences in the rich history and appreciation of American Rodeo, The Cowboy Ethic and immersion into China history and culture was the inspiration and continuing foundation for Rodeo China.
